Previously used as offices, the near derelict building was given a new purpose by Mike Lapworth who designed the restaurant and Boutique hotel, the first of its kind in Edgbaston.
The property is located on the Calthorpe Estate and entailed a complete refurbishment of the existing fabric of the Grade II Listed building to restore and replace features both internally and externally. Mike Lapworth worked closely with the client to create the ambience required for a unique dining experience.
The property had been used as offices in the 1960s and 1970s and much of the original features and detail had been removed. On top of that the building stood vacant for 10 years or more and leaking roof and failing gutters had all added to the state of disrepair.
After a number of years of successful trading Simpsons needed more dining area and Mike Lapworth was again involved with the reorganisation of the space and a further extension to the property working with Calthorpe Estates and the restauranteur.
