Mike Lapworth is an Award-winning Chartered Architect who qualified in 1980 after leaving Nottingham University in 1979 attaining BA (Hons) in Architecture and Environmental Science and Bachelor of Architecture (Hons).
Mike spent several years gaining experience in all types of commercial development in Private Practice in Birmingham and ran the Midlands and South office for a Newcastle based practice which included some residential work.
In 1988 he set up his own practice with his wife – The Lapworth Partnership, which quickly gained a reputation for designing good quality buildings. Their work included commercial buildings – offices, medical, retail, education, student accommodation, industrial, & motor trade with clients including Calthorpe Estates, Birmingham Blue Coat School, Birmingham University, Lidl, Aldi, All Electric Garages and many other private developers.
Running in parallel with the Commercial development work there was an ongoing range of Residential work which included many Award-winning housing projects and work for private clients designing new bespoke one-off houses and innovative extensions of all sizes. Clients included Chase Homes, Cameron Homes, Bellway Homes, and many others. In addition many of the projects were awarded for work on Listed Buildings of all grades and for buildings or sites located within Conservation Areas.
Mike Lapworth’s practice concentrates on attention to detail, quality and providing clients with bespoke and imaginative design solutions across the Midlands and the Cotswolds in particular, but work is undertaken across the country. Work includes new developments of all kinds, but it also includes specialist knowledge work on Conservation and Restoration of Listed and other existing buildings.
Mike Lapworth has been lucky enough to work on a number of buildings designed by important architects, many of which are Grade I and Grade II Listed and has also been involved with Listed Landscapes. These notable architects and landscape designers have included Robert Adam, capability Brown, Sanderson, Herman Miller, William Shenstone, John Nash, Humphrey Repton, Sir George Gilbert Scott and many more.
Mike is interested in the Conservation and Restoration of old buildings and heads an experienced and versatile team of architects and designers and is able to organise specialist building work in the Cotswolds and other areas.
