Family Gym
Design led addition to the property in a Conservation Area to provide a gym/leisure complex, indoor pool and contemporary orangery
The clients recently purchased the fine 1850s Listed property around two years ago and as the first project, Mike Lapworth was asked to design new gate piers and gates for the unusual central entrance to the plot from the road and add railings above the existing low boundary wall.
Having successfully completed this, Mike Lapworth was asked to design an extension to accommodate a utility room, and a new kitchen/dining/family room which would overlook the splendid landscaped garden at the rear of the house.
Mike Lapworth’s design solution flooded the room with natural light and allows garden views within the confines of the building lines and plot boundary whilst respecting the existing fabric of the house with its split levels and external spaces.
Of particular interest is the full height sliding pocket windows which were fitted in the rear elevation enabling the clients to fully open the sliding doors to access the terrace dining area and garden over a level threshold.
Mike Lapworth and his team have now been commissioned to create a new swimming pool and gym within the rear garden by extending the original coach house, service yard and conservatory.
